With less than two weeks to go until the crowdfunding deadline for the Kings Theatre Kirkcaldy, those behind the project are hoping people will continue to show their support.

It was revealed in October that plans were afoot to transform the former ABC cinema in Kirkcaldy High Street into a 2000 capacity live entertainment venue, together with the adjoining former YWCA which would become a high end corporate event venue.

However, before this could happen, £30,000 was required by Kings Theatre Kirkcaldy Ltd to carry out feasibility studies on the derelict building as well as completing initial works to make it wind and water tight.

To date a total of almost £8000 has been raised - including money collected through a crowdfunding video as well as a £3000 grant from the Architectural Heritage Fund.

Support from members of the public is key to making the project happen, and now that the funding project has just 11 days to run it is hoped that more people will pledge their support before the deadline.

Grant Foster, director of Kings Theatre Kirkcaldy Ltd explained that even if the £30,000 total is not reached before December 7, the money already raised will be kept and a number of other fundraising initiatives will be put into place in a bid to raise the remainder of the cash.

He said: “We can progress as we keep what we raise.

“The money we have so far will allow us to carry out the structural surveys on the building so we will know what work then needs to be done.

“It won’t cover a feasibility study, but we’ll be continuing to fundraise after the crowdfunding has finished to raise the money needed for this.”

The team are planning several fundraising events including a gala dinner and music gigs, although dates are still to be finalised for these.

In recent weeks the plans have received support from Fife artist Jack Vettriano, who will be donating a signed limited edition print to Kings Theatre Kirkcaldy Ltd, to help raise money through an auction.
