Two people suspected of being involved in human trafficking have appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.

Ana Paula Calder (35), and Jose Martins Barbosa (44), both of Kirkcaldy, appeared at the town’s court on Monday.

They faced charges under the Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act 2003 and the Criminal Law (Consolidation) (Scotland) Act 1995.

Calder and Barbosa made no plea or declaration and the case was continued for further examination.

Both were remanded in custody and are due to make their next appearance within eight days.

The pair appeared in court after Police Scotland officers attended a number of addresses across Scotland on Friday with partner organisations as part of an ongoing operation into human trafficking.
