‘A facility for the town to be proud of’

Kirkcaldy’s brand new leisure centre is set to open its doors to the public on Monday morning.

It’s been months in the building, but the multi-million pound facility is now ready for use, opening later than originally planned due to drainage issues.

And ahead of the first visitors being welcomed into the centre, The Press was given a sneak peek of all that’s on offer.

The centre boasts a 25m six lane swimming pool with poolside spectating, a training pool with an underwater moveable floor, accessible family wet side changing facilities, a health suite with ssauna and steam room, a 60 station gym, a purpose built aerobics studio, a four court sports hall and a children’s play centre.

There is also a cafe area and a meeting room within the building.

And Ed Watson, chief executive of Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, who will look after the centre, believes it is a facility for the town to be proud of.

He said: “This gives us the opportunity to create opportunities in terms of health and fitness in Kirkcaldy that have not been here before.

“The Trust’s team responsible for Kirkcaldy Leisure Centre is particularly keen to welcome customers once doors open as they will be able to deliver so much more than was previously possible with the old Kirkcaldy Swimming Pool.

“The range of facilities and state-of-the-art equipment means that there will be a fantastic range of programmes and classes available for all ages and abilities.

“We are very hopeful that the local residents will be impressed with the quality and choice available at their new centre.”

The new centre replaces the former town swimming pool, which closed in August after more than 30 years.

Neil Crooks, chairman of Kirkcaldy area committee, added: “This facility, facing the right way with an impressive outlook over the Forth, is fitted out with ultra-modern equipment and offers the people of Kirkcaldy more sporting amenities than they have ever had under the one roof.

“I look forward to seeing the local community’s reaction to the new pool, aerobics studio, sports hall and fitness suite.”
