A KIRKCALDY teenager is celebrating after making it to the finals of a UK-wide modelling competition.

Raegan Thomson, 15, is a finalist in the teen heats of the Model of the Year 2012 event, run by model and actress Kerri Parker.

Speaking about her success, St Andrews High school pupil Raegan says: “I always wanted to be a model but I only started modelling properly about a month ago.

“It’s just amazing, I’m so happy. My family and friends have been so supportive, they are all really proud of me.”

After searching for modelling opportunities and pageants online, Raegan came across Model of the Year, which has been running since 2008.

Since then, the competition has grown dramatically, and the winner of the teen contest will receive more than £5000 worth of prizes. As well as the creation of their own website, worth £1000, the winning teen will also shoot her own 2013 calendar, receive personal model tutoring, shoot portfolio pictures worth £1500, and receive the coveted winners crown.

As part of the contest, Raegan has to raise money from sponsorship, which family and friends have helped with. She also held a cake sale at dad Alec’s work, and is doing a sponsored walk across the Forth Road Bridge this weekend.

Raegan, accompanied by mum Karen, older sister Robyn, cousin Hollie and boyfriend Darren, will travel to Norwich for the final on November 24 & 25.

The weekend will be spent modelling a range of outfits, from casual wear and beach wear, to evening gowns and Hollywood glamour.

And not only will she be perfecting her best pose, Raegan will be interviewed by the judges on why she should be chosen as Teen Model of the Year 2012. “I’m quite nervous about it, but I think I’ll do pretty good,” she says confidently.

As well as competing for the Teen Model of the Year crown, Raegan is also in the running for their Miss Popularity Award, which is running on Facebook. “When people like my photo, it counts as a vote. I’m in the lead right now but I’m so nervous because the final competition is so far away so I just needs lots more support to win,” says Raegan.
