Leven expansion as 100 home plan given go ahead

Members of Fife Council’s central planning committee granted the go-ahead of Campion Homes’ application for a development adjacent to Cupar Road, despite a number of local objections.

The area, which is included in the Fife authority’s local development plan, has seen two previous applications rejected, but officers this time advised for conditional approval.

The overriding concern from those objecting to the plans was the negative impact the development would have on local traffic. The lack of available parking, the fact that it was a greenfield site and fears that historic mines could have an environmental impact on the site, were also raised.

Concerns over the positioning of affordable housing that, as well as provision for disabled children in a planned play park, the positioning of grit bins and the developers contribution towards public art, were also raised.

Cllr John Beare said the 10 affordable dwellings should be distributed throughout the site rather than be grouped together.

“I thought we had moved on from isolating affordable units in this way. They should be integrated throughout the scheme,” he said.

An extension of a 30mph zone to include the main road access to the site has been recommended, while the site itself will consist of a mixture of two, three, four and five-bedroom detached and semi-detached dwellings and landscaping throughout.
