A super slimmer from Levenmouth has been recognised for her amazing achievments at the semi-finals of a UK-wide slimming competition.
Aptly named Karen Scales lost an impressive eight and a half stones, going from 19st 5lb to 10st 12.5lb, after she joined her local slimming club.
The remarkable achievement earned Karen a place as one of just 58 women from across the UK and Ireland who reached the finals of Slimming World’s Woman of the Year 2013 competition.
Karen joined the Methil Slimming World group in January 2012, and her weight loss inspired members of the group to vote her as their representative in the annual Woman of the Year competition.
Karen said: “I’d tried losing weight before but I always failed miserably because the diets I followed would leave me feeling hungry and deprived – and so I’d be miserable too! I’d miss my favourite foods too much so before long I’d have thrown in the towel and be back where I started.”
But Karen believes the support she received from others in her group has been key to her success. “If ever my motivation did start to fade, my consultant and the rest of the group were there to remind me how far I’d come,” she said.
“Each week we talk about coping with different challenges coming up and share recipes, advice and top tips like offers we’ve seen in local supermarkets. We laugh a lot and celebrate our success too and I’ve made so many friends that I love going to my group every week.”
Although Karen did not win the overall title of Woman of the Year 2013, she was lucky enough to meet former Westlife star Brian McFadden, who was there to congratulate all of the women on their success.
