Levenmouth twinning group looking for local support

The link between Levenmouth and the French town, located near to Bourdeaux, was made official during the trip, attended by town officials, musicians and local youngsters.

And now officials here are busy planning for a visit from our Bruges friends in 2017.

Linda Judge of LTA had nothing but praise for their French hosts, and said it’s now made them even more determined to up their game for the visit next year.

“The trip went really, really well and everyone had a great time.

“The young people there were amazed at how informal the whole thing felt and already, people have made life-long friends.”

As part of the new link, a group of youngsters has already travelled back to the French town for a special summer camp, alongside young people from Pollenca in Spain and Umkirch in Germany, which are also twinned with Bruges.

Levenmouth will host the camp in 2018, just one of several events the LTA hopes to oversee as part of the new link.

“We’re hoping that groups can be set up to help organise things like the summer camp, and as LTA, we will be the umbrella organisation which can offer support. But it will be down to the individual groups to raise funds, etc,” explained Linda.

LTA has already begun fundraising for the several activities which will have to be organised for next year’s reciprocal visit, and has planned an open evening this September to attract people who might be interested in joining the association.

“People can come along and find out more about what we do and how they can possibly help us,” said Linda.

The group is also desperately looking for host families who might be willing to house a French visitor for the few days they will be in Levenmouth.

The majority of the 30+ visitors to Bruges in June were made welcome by local families, and Linda is hoping Levenmouth’s residents will offer a warm welcome of their own.

The meeting takes place at the Buckhaven Beehive on College Street on September 14 at 6.30pm.
