Lifeboat called to assist with female casualty on Fife Coastal Path

The inshore lifeboat (pictured) was called out initially, before it requested backup from the Anstruther lifeboat.

Crews received the report of a female injured with a suspected fracture to her leg between Newark Castle and Ardross Farm on the Fife Coastal Path around 2pm.

The inshore lifeboat (ILB) launched first and then requested support from Anstruther Lifeboat (ALB) to assist with the transfer.

The ILB arrived on scene where crews found the woman with her husband, three children and the family dog.

The casualty was being supported by three ambulance personnel who had stabilised her.

Crews worked to transfer the children and the dog to the ALB and return with a stretcher for the transfer of the casualty.

The ILB took the casualty and the on-scene paramedic to St Monans where crews handed the casualty over to the waiting ambulance. The woman was then transferred to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy for treatment.

Helmsman Alex Purves said: “Although a somewhat nasty injury had been sustained by this female, our crews acted swiftly on instruction to minimise the time taken to transfer the casualty to the waiting ambulance.

“With the summer approaching, it is a reminder to all of the dangers of the coastal walk. We have since heard the casualty is awaiting surgery on a fractured tibia and we wish her a safe and speedy recovery.”
