Lifeline for homeless service

The Scottish Christian Alliance revealed last month that it was to withdraw from providing its present service at Gilven House due to financial pressures.

It provides accommodation for vulnerable girls between 16-25, with spaces for ten vulnerable women at the hostel.

But on Monday, Fife Council announced that it would be protecting the service at Gilven House.

Councillor Judy Hamilton, convener for Community and Housing Services Committee at Fife Council, said: “Discussions with the Scottish Christian Alliance are at an advanced stage for the council to take over the management of the vital homelessness services delivered by the staff at Gilven House.

“We are now seeking to bring these vital services for young vulnerable women in-house to protect both residents and staff, and avoid further anxiety about the future of Gilven House.”

MP Peter Grant welcomed the news from Fife Council, saying: “I hope the council and SCA can reach agreement quickly so that the threat of closure can be lifted and the staff at Gilven can continue with the outstanding service they provide.”
