Looking back: A whale on the beach at Kirkcaldy

Isn't this a fantastic image?

We’re not sure of the date, but we do know that in 1813, the first Kirkcaldy whaling ship, The Earl Percy, sailed north to the Davis Strait, between mid western Greenland and Nunavut, Canada’s Baffin Island.

The town’s last whaler, The Brilliant, was sold in 1866 to Peterhead, bringing an end to the industry.
