Looking Back: Fire engine fun, July 1976

The fascination with fire engines and the role of fire crews is nothing new among children.

For as long as they have been in existence, the ringing of bells and sirens on the way to an emergency is the stuff of excitement for young ... and old.

And long before children’s television heroes such as Fireman Sam and the like, when youngsters are asked what they want to be when they grow up, it’s a safe bet there will be at least one or two who want to be fire fighters.

This photograph from our archives shows children from Caskieberran in Glenrothes enjoying a visit from firemen to their playgroup during the summer of 1976.

If you have any old photographs of Glenrothes, we’d love to see them. Send them to [email protected].
