Looking back: Hogmanay - and the Stone of Destiny - at Fisher and Donaldson

This week's trip down memory lane takes us back almost 66 years to 1950, the year of one of the most audacious '“ and long unsolved '“ thefts in history.

That Christmas, four Scottish students had set off in an unheated car to make the long journey from Glasgow to Westminster Abbey to steal the Stone of Destiny, or Stone of Scone, and return it to Scotland where they believed it rightfully belonged.

Family bakers Fisher and Donaldson capitalised on the escapade a week later at New Year with this display in the window of the shop they still run in Crossgate, Cupar.
