And in doing so, the team had amassed Rovers’ biggest points haul for a season in over 50 years.

“With the kick-off delayed for 10 minutes to let the huge home support into the ground, it was clear from the outset that the town had responded to player-boss Jimmy Nicholl’s call to arms.
“Flags waved in the pleasant spring breeze and fans old enough to know better danced their way to the terraces for the biggest party Kirkcaldy had ever seen.”
