Looking back: Summer donkey rides
An enduring memory and summer activity on the beaches of Elie and Earlsferry were pony rides up and down the golden sands.
Each day during the two months of summer the donkeys and ponies walked the Earlsferry and Elie beaches giving rides to children.
A welcome face come summer was that of Robert Haig – the donkey man – who arrived with a hand painted caravan, six donkeys and six ponies and stayed till the end of August. A plaque in honour of his services to summer fun is afixed to the wall of one of the cottages.
