A YOUNG Glenrothes swimmer took home an award from the recent national swimming awards.

The Glasgow Science Centre was the venue for the 12th Scottish Swimming Awards evening, where Scotland’s swimming community came together to celebrate the achievements of athletes from all disciplines

Female Disability Swimmer of the Year went to Lucy Walkup (14), who made her international swimming debut at the World Deaf Swimming Championships in 2010.

Mum, Lillian Walkup, revealed Lucy’s next target.

She said: “She is absolutely delighted.

“She met lots of really high profile swimmers at the awards\- totally inspiring for her.

“It’s been an awesome year, now she’s looking to build on that. Hoping to get in the team for 2014 Deaflympics.”
