M90 improvement programme enters final phase

Repairs and resurfacing to sections of the northbound carriageway will take place between junctions five (Gairneybridge) and six (Kinross) starting on Saturday.

The maintenance is expected to take approximately 11 days to complete and will repair just over a kilometre of the carriageway which has deteriorated, as well as replace some of the joints in the surface.

The M90 at this section is used by almost 30,000 vehicles a day and the work will enhance the safety of the road.

To allow the works to take place safely, a contraflow system will be in place to protect roadworkers as well as motorists.

The junction six northbound off-slip will also be required to close for seven nights to allow teams to complete resurfacing works adjacent to the off-slip.

The night time closures run from Sunday, June 26 between 7.30pm and 6.30am for seven nights, with a signed diversion in place.

These works follow on from previous phases of improvements carried out between Junctions three to four, junctions four to five and the northbound off-slip since April this year.

Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s north east representative, said: “We’re pleased to move onto the final phase of the £2m investment into the M90 for this year, which will ensure our network continues to operate at the highest standard.

“We’ve scheduled the programme to take place ahead of the peak summer period to minimise disruption, and we’re carrying out the sections that affect the junction six northbound off-slip at night to limit the impact to motorists.

“As with all our works, we would encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance and visit the Traffic Scotland website for travel information before setting out.”
