Magic Faraway Cabaret, Voodoo Rooms (Venue 68)

It’s chucking it down with rain, and the room is packed for this late night cabaret show which offers a little bit of everything.

The Magic Faraway Cabaret have been coming to the Free Fringe for four years, and their line up was fantastic.

The show was bedevilled by technical issues - soundtracks and backing tracks disappearing into a cluster of ipods - but they cracked on and still served up a great hour of entertainment.

Star billing had to go to magician Chris Cook who not only nailed it with his own set but also filled in while the techies sorted out the problems.

He was sharp and slick, and hugely entertaining - more than a few of us left with a flyer for his own show ‘Chris Cook: Truth Or Dare’ which fills the midday slot in the same venue.

And if you want comedy with a sharper edge than a sword then don’t miss Ria Lina Taboo Raider.

She took no prisoners with a set that was short and spiky - and laugh out loud funny.

She’s at The Stand nightly, and should be on your ‘go see’ list.

And if you’re in town late at night, then this nightly cabaret is well worth taking in.

Just expect the unexpected ...
