Make road one way to avoid an accident, say Kirkcaldy residents

Members of Dallas Drive Tenants and Residents’ Association want part of Dallas Drive from the Cullen Crescent junction down to Brodick Road made into a one way street in order to prevent “an accident waiting to happen.”

And they are being helped in their cause by local councillor Neil Crooks who will hand over the 70-signature document to Fife Council’s transportation department for consideration.

Sharon Reynolds (44), chairman of the residents’ association said it was a problem which had been ongoing for a long time but had recently become more dangerous.

“Dallas Drive is a narrow street and it is made worse by cars parking on both sides of the road. It can be like an obstacle course for vehicles,” she said.

“As well as trying to get a one way system we also want the council to impose parking restrictions on one side.

“We’ve seen cars parked on the pavements so they can get as close to their houses as possible and older people and mums with buggies have to go out onto the road to get past. It’s really dangerous as cars race down the hill. There are also buses going up and down along Cullen Crescent, which makes it even busier.”

“Two of our members Tam and Maureen Bell who live at the bottom end of Dallas Drive first brought up the issue and it was them who came up with the idea that a one-way system would be the best solution. Everyone has really got behind it and it is all about making the area better and safer for people living here.

“We handed over the petition to Councillor Crooks at our last meeting on January 27.”

Councillor Crooks said: “The community around Dallas Drive has been very influential in shaping its future.

“I have worked closely with the association for years and will try my best to have this significant change to traffic flow implemented. Transportation services has the petition and will be organising next steps in the coming weeks.

“More consultation will be carried out by the Council to determine exactly what can be done and what legal steps will be needed.”
