Recruitment is open for what is described as Fife’s best summer job.
The RNLI provides lifeguard cover for four beaches, including the East Sands, and while the country is just emerging from the depths of winter, the organisation is already looking for strong swimmers with a good level of fitness for this summer.
David Gorman, RNLI lifeguard manager, said: ‘Being an RNLI beach lifeguard is not only Fife’s best summer job – it’s got to be Britain’s best summer job as well.
“The beach is your office. You get paid to train and practice water rescue and first aid skills, so you’re ready to leap into action and save a life at a moment’s notice.
“Lifeguards come from all walks of life including teachers, business owners and gap year travellers, but we do recruit a lot of students and college pupils because it’s a seasonal job.”
Last year RNLI lifeguards across the UK dealt with more than 17,000 incidents, rescued 1769 people and saved 92 lives.
New candidates will need to prove they are courageous, selfless, trustworthy and dependable.
In return they will receive training in search and rescue, lifesaving and casualty care techniques.
Other Fife beaches covered are Leven, Burntisland and Aberdour Silver Sands.
There are also opportunities for volunteer qualified lifeguards.
