Man (42) dies in East Wemyss fire

The 42-year old lost his life after fire broke out in a block of flats in East Wemyss.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It happened around 10.30 a.m. this morning when emergency services were called to Sir Jimmy Shand Court after a neighbour raised the alarm.

Rescuers attended and removed the man from a ground floor flat but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbouring flats were evacuated as a precautionary measure while fire crews extinguished the flames.

A joint investigation between Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is now underway to establish the full set of circumstances.

As in all cases of sudden death a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Detective Chief Inspector Graham Fenton based at Glenrothes police station said: “This is a tragic incident that has resulted in the death of a 42-year-old man.

“Our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time.

“A thorough and robust investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway however the incident is being treated as non-suspicious at this time.”
