Craig Mills (22) put the head of the cat, known as Pippa, in his mouth and bit it in a catalogue of violence captured on video by his partner David Walker.

The cruel killing only came to light after the couple split up.

The video was posted on line and caused “social unrest”, Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard.

Mills has a violent past, with convictions for assault against his partners. Last year he turned his attention to the family pet.

Mills, of Union Street, Lochgelly, appeared from custody at Dunfermline Sheriff Court and admitted the killing.

Between April 9 and September 30 last year, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by carrying out acts of cruelty against the family pet cat and placed his partner in a state of fear and alarm by causing the cat unnecessary suffering by restraining it on his knee, distressing it and causing it to urinate.

He thereafter punched and slapped the cat, put its head in his mouth and bit it, threw it against a wall and killed it.

The court heard Mills had two convictions for domestic abuse for assaulting different partners in January 2014 and January this year.

Depute fiscal Dev Kapadia opposed bail because Mills was already on a community payback order.

Sheriff Charles Macnair called for reports and said he may have to watch the video of the incident before sentencing.

Mills was allowed bail and he

is due return to court on August 3 for sentencing.
