Man convicted of rape & assault in Kirkcaldy

Brandon Charite (21) attacked the woman in a house in Kirkcaldy in April, 2015.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard how Charite punched, kicked and threatened to kill her before subjecting her to a violent sexual assault.

The story emerged after a jury returned guilty verdicts to charges of rape and assault.

Charite, who is currently detained at YOI Polmont, had denied the charges.

During proceedings, his victim told the court about Charite’s actions.

She told prosecution lawyer, Steven Borthwick: “He punched me. He kicked me. He has thrown me about and he threatened me.

“He basically told me if I said anything, he would end me. I was scared.”

After the jury returned its verdicts, it emerged that Charite had previous convictions for assaulting police officers, breaching bail and breaching probation.

Judge Lady Stacey deferred sentence to obtain reports about his character.

She told him: “You have a shocking record and you have been convicted of very serious offences. I am going to defer sentence to obtain a risk assessment and to see whether the imposition of an extended sentence is appropriate in this case.”

Charite will be sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh on May 27.
