Police are investigating the death of a man in Kirkcaldy.
It happened during an incident in which a female officer was also injured.
Few details have been released so far on the background to what a senior officer called ‘‘a tragic set of circumstances.’’
Police Scotland confirmed they were called to the incident in the Hayfield Road area during which a man aged 31 died.
The officer injured was not stabbed, contrary to some earlier reports.
Garry McEwan, Fife Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent, said: “This is a tragic set of circumstances and my condolences go to the man’s family.’’
He added: “The investigation of deaths in Scotland is the responsibility of Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, who have instructed the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner to lead on this enquiry.”
