Prosecutors claim Mr Wallace was pushed and then struck on the face causing him to fall to the ground.

Gay, of Kirkcaldy, today (Monday) faced the allegation during a short hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.

His lawyer Iain Paterson entered a not guilty plea and lodged a special defence of self defence.

Judge Lady Scott set a trial date for August 22 in Edinburgh.

The case is likely to last around five days.

Gay’s bail was continued.
