Locals using John Dixon Park are about to get a new facility when the park pavilion opens its doors to the public next week.

Markinch Community Council will be manning the building for two hours a day, Monday to Friday throughout the summer months to allow people to use toilet facilities and to purchase refreshments.

Fife Council have completed essential maintenance work allowing volunteers to open the building which otherwise is only used by football teams and during the town’s annual Highland Games.

The decision to open the pavilion came after the public told the community council they wanted more facilities in the park.

“The building is ideally placed right next to the play park area so it will be especially beneficial to families with young children,” said Angela High, community council chairman.

“It will also act as a contact point for the public to discuss issues with a community councillor and for them to learn more about projects we have planned.”

The pavilion opens on July 6 and weekdays thereafter from 1.00-3.00 p.m.
