It will provide local groups, elected members and Police Scotland with an opportunity to voice their concerns over the on-going problem, and how best to tackle it.

It comes just two months after officers re-launched the Operation Fireblade initiative in the area after recognising the menace of motorbikes and quads as a ‘serious concern’ to people living in the area.

Lorraine Wilkinson, chairman of the Rabbit Braes development group met with Claire Baker MSP last week to discuss the problem, and together they are inviting local groups who are interested in discussing a solution to come to the August meeting.

Lorraine told the Press: “While the problem has slowed down on the grassy areas, they seem to be on the roads more now.

“We welcomed Operation Fireblade, but haven’t heard anything since so it will be good to get an update from the police.”

Ms Baker, who has long campaigned against the menace of bikes within the Fife area, said: “The concern for many locals is their safety. Often these vehicles are used in parks and public pathways and cause a huge danger to children, residents and dog walkers.

“The truth is that any area of grassland of a significant size in the region is being seen as an opportunity to race these vehicles and at times put the safety of others at risk.

“There are many people who use or buy these vehicles that do not realise their use can be a criminal offence, just as there are many who use these vehicles safely and within the law.

“However locals need the full support of the Government and local police if they are to tackle this anti-social behaviour. I know that local officers are aware of this problem and are acting but it is vital that we all work together.”

Ms Baker has also pledged to contact the new Minister for Community Safety to highlight the issue.
