THE Tay Rail Bridge Disaster Memorial Trust are appealing for donations to aid their plans.
They hope to build a memorial to those who lost their lives when a train plunged into the Tay during a violent storm which caused the bridge to collapse on December 28, 1879. Many fifers died that night, including the train’s Leslie-born driver David Mitchell, and Stuart Morris of Balgonie’s great-great-grandmother. The fund was recently boosted by a play on the disaster, which ran in Dundee.
To donate, make cheques out to “Tay Rail Bridge Disaster Memorial Trust” and send to Ian Rae, Treasurer of TRBDMT, 11 Wilmington Drive, Glenrothes, KY7 6US.
