Community spirited mums from Methilhill Primary School have combined to their efforts to resurrect the popular Methilhill Children’s Gala.

The event - which had been running for over a quarter of a century - ground to a halt in 2012 with no-one left to take the place of long-serving community members who stepped down from the committee.

Sarah Baker, vice treasurer of the new group said: “We want to encourage a community spirit in the area and unite the local area to work together for something positive.”

The ten mums - who all have children at various stages throughout Methilhill Primary - came up with the idea after Sarah enquired on Facebook about why the gala had stopped.

New chairman, Claire Aitken, secretary Donna Guthrie, treasurer Fay McDonald-Ali and Sarah have formed a committee with the aim of motivating the town and gaining more public support for the event.

“We have had help from Chic Copeland in setting up the committee and we hope to have a good level of public support but at the moment we are unsure what to expect.

“We are aiming to keep as much of the gala suppliers local to Methilhill and surrounding areas as well as using groups from the area such as twirlers, dancers and local uniformed youth, cadets, scouts, girl guides etc.,” explained Sarah.

The gala is expected to be held on June 4, 2016 from 12 - 4pm.

Anyone who wants to help can contact the committee via Facebook group ‘Methilhill children & community gala’.
