It’s a case of ‘stand by your mashers’ in ‘Muchty as the town prepares to crown its king - or queen - of the stovie-makers.
As part of the potato festival being held in honour of ‘Muchty’s own potato pioneer Archibald Findlay, a competition is to be held on November 15 at which entrants will vie for the coveted wooden potato masher specially crafted by local wood turner John McWilliam.
They’ll cook their stovies at home then take them along to the church hall to be judged by members of the public.
The evening will also involve lots of potato-related fun, including entertainment from ‘Muchty Music Makers, potato juggling and competitions for the best dressed potato and best potato print - as well as the story of stovies.
Said organiser John Marshall: “Everyone in Scotland has had their own memorable stovie experience.
“Competition is likely to be fierce but will be fun!”
