The father of missing airman Corrie McKeague has stated that his son is 'gone' and that a private memorial is being planned for him.

Corrie McKeague, who grew up in Cupar, was 23 when he disappeared during a night out in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, on September 24, 2016.

His father, Martin McKeague, shared a statement from Suffolk Police, which explained a Biffa bin collected at a Greggs on September 24 weighed 116KG – much higher than the usual figure.

It states that “no other reasonable explanation” has been found for the unusually high bin weight, consolidating the view that “Corrie came to be in that bin”.

Martin added: “The police have confirmed the Biffa bin weight that suggests my son ended up in the Suffolk waste disposal system.

“They also confirmed that there is no new evidence whatsoever.

“My son is gone and the McKeague family in Scotland will be holding a private memorial for him in the near future.

“Thank you all again for standing up and standing by us.”

He also said flowers and cards with notes from friends and family had been laid in Bury St Edmonds on the second anniversary of his disappearance.
