Buckhaven Baptist Church is set to welcome a new minister.

Rob Jones, of Crossford, is to be inducted at a special ceremony this Saturday at 6.30pm, where his father, who is also a minister, is due to preach.

This will be the first full charge for Mr Jones (44) as he succeeds the Rev Peter Carr, who left the College Street kirk in 2014 and is now leader of Buckhaven Community Church.

Mr Jones from Aberdeen, worked as a design engineer and spent time in Kent, Edinburgh and Dunfermline before redundancy led to a time of reflection and a change of heart, he said.

Mr Jones gradually became involved with church outreach work and theological studies, eventually deciding on a complete career change.

He said he was looking forward very much to his new role in Levenmouth and hoped to show people the church was there for them, while bringing it to the heart of the community.

“My aim is to welcome back people who feel they ought to come to church but, for one reason or another, have fallen off the edge of things,” he added. “I’d hope to welcome them, listen to them and tell them ‘don’t feel you’re not good enough’,”.

Local ministers are also expected to bring greetings from their congregations, while the induction will be led by Rev Martin Hodson, representing the Baptist Union of Scotland.

Refreshments will follow, with all interested people welcome to attend.
