Professional golfer Stephen McAllister has teamed up with Nuffield Health Glasgow Hospital to urge his fellow professional golfers to play safe and guard against the sun.

With a number of players including Adam Scott and Padraig Harrington requiring treatment for skin cancer in recent years, Stephen is backing the nationwide mole awareness campaign by the not-for-profit Glasgow hospital, which aims to encourage Scots to Be ‘Mole’ Aware and know the signs and symptoms to look out for.

The campaign highlights the importance of regular self-examination, giving tips and advice on what to look out for by learning the ‘ABCD’ of moles.

Stephen said: “Professional golfers aren’t immune to this danger, and I am well aware that a number of players have had varying degrees of battles with skin cancer over the years. Our year-round access to the links, all over the world at times, brings with it hours on end out in the open, and people just don’t realise how much damage they are doing to their skin.

“This campaign is something that I feel very strongly in supporting, and I think players at all levels should be aware of the increased risk to skin cancer if they don’t take care.

“It’s great to see Nuffield Health Glasgow Hospital raise awareness of such an important issue. So many people could be saved if they knew the signs of what to look out for at an early stage.”

Early detection can be vital and can significantly increase survival rates.
