Boyd Legal Solicitors believe the merger with Kirkcaldy-based Gibson & Spears, Dow & Son will provide enhanced legal services to people in Fife.

The move will see Peter Aitken, proprietor of Gibson & Spears, Dow & Son, and a leading figure in the Fife community, continue to be based at the East Fergus Place office although the business will trade as Boyd Legal.

Boyd Legal, a full service practice headquartered in Edinburgh, recently undertook a strategic review of its operations to support its drive for further growth.

Peter Boyd, managing director, said: “Peter Aitken has been a respected figure in Fife legal circles for a considerable number of years.

“Peter will continue with us but will have the backing and resources of our Edinburgh team.

“We want to enhance his business and ensure further success. Boyd Legal employ around 35 staff and lawyers. We are not a massive legal conglomerate but we are big enough to offer the level of expertise that is difficult in a small legal practice, yet small enough to deliver personal service and affordable fees.”

Peter Aitken added: “The firm will continue to offer our clients the full range of services that we have provided for the last century with the full back-up services from our new parent firm in Edinburgh.

“I’m looking forward to helping develop new business and having more time with my longstanding clients.”

The firms of Gibson & Spears, Dow & Son have operated in the Fife community for more than 100 years and over this period a number of its partners have served the people of Fife as Provost of Kirkcaldy and as Town Clerks of Dysart and Kinghorn.

Peter, who is chairman of both Largo Area Community Council and East Neuk of Fife Preservation Society, provides volunteer solicitor services to both the Victoria Hospice in Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline’s Queen Margaret Hospice.

The new business will now offer commercial, business, wills and estates, later life and family legal services.
