The Kingdom Shopping Centre in Glenrothes has new owners - Mars Pension Trustees Ltd, the same company which owns the Mercat in Kirkcaldy.
The sale puts an end to months of speculation over long standing owners CIS/AXA’s future commitment to the centre and their involvement in re-development plans for Glenrothes town centre.
The news was welcomed by chair of Glenrothes Area Committee Councillor Altany Craik as “good news for the town centre”.
He said: “The town centre is a major agenda for Glenrothes. With the Kingdom Centre under new ownership this is a chance to get things right.”
Cllr Craik highlighted the quick sale of the centre as a positive sign. “It didn’t sit on the market for months which tells me it suits their portfolio.
“The area committee are looking forward to sitting down with Mars and seeing what they want to achieve.”
Robert winter, Kingdom Centre manager, said the take over was at an early stage but stressed that it was “business as usual”.
He said: “We will need to get to know our new landlord and the structure of the business, but for the time being I’d like to reassure our customers and tenants that during this period we will be working hard to operate at the same high standard. Once we know the new owner’s plans they will then be communicated.”
The Gazette contacted James Laing Laselle, managing agents for Mars, but had not received a reply at the time of going to press.
