Former Leven GP Dr Les Bisset has been named as the vice-chairman of NHS Fife.

Dr Bisset joined the NHS Fife Board as a non-executive member earlier this year, having worked as a General Practitioner at Leven Health Centre for 34 years before his retirement in 2010.

Over the course of the last two decades, Dr Bisset has held a variety of part-time appointments with NHS Fife Board, most recently acting as clinical director for Kirkcaldy and Levenmouth CHP until 2012.

In addition to his role as a member of the NHS Fife Board, Dr Bisset is also an honorary senior lecturer in medicine at the University of St Andrews and was involved in setting up a teaching programme in Levenmouth for second year medical students, designed to enhance their understanding of the social determinants of health.

Dr Bisset assumes the role of vice-chairman from Alastair Robertson, who will shortly retire from the Board, having joined in 2007, and having served as vice-chairman since 2011.

Allan Burns, NHS Fife chairman, said: “I welcome the appointment of Dr Les Bisset as vice-chairman of the NHS Fife Board.

“Les brings a great deal on experience to the role and I look forward to working alongside him as we continue improving healthcare services for the people of Fife.

“I would also like to give my thanks to Alastair, on behalf of the whole Board, for the invaluable contribution he has made to NHS Fife over a number of years.”
