New sensory room for Buckhaven Primary pupils

Staff at the school worked hard to convert a former storage room into a space which will help children with additional support needs (ASN).

Depute headmaster Gordon Anderson said: “Through discussions with parents and stakeholders in the area, as well as the children at the school we felt there was a need for children to have sensory experiences within the school.

“We have children with autism and specific learning needs and this is something that can help to make their day special.

“We worked closely with our educational psychologist and we also looked at other sensory facilities to make the room match the needs for the children at our school.

“Everything in here has been researched to help our children with ASN. Coming in here can just get them into the right frame of mind for learning.”

Masonic Lodge Randolph 776, donated £1650 for the project, with help from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Fife and Kinross, raised through charity events.

Grand Master Bill Foster said: “I think the room is brilliant.

“It’s great that we can help out with a donation and put something back into Buckhaven.”
