A Tayport couple are to appear in court accused of fraudulently holding a £5000 wedding reception at a top hotel without paying for it.

Vicky Colville and Raymond Wilkie are accused of lying to managers at the Malmaison in Dundee and claiming they had already paid for their reception.

It is claimed the duo, on December 27 last year, included food, drinks, a DJ and accommodation for the couple.

The event cost a total of £4813.60 - but it is alleged they never paid the bill.

They are accused of handing over a cheque to the hotel manager and the DJ knowing there were no funds in the account to cover the cheques as the accounts had been closed.

They are said to have pretended to sales manager Derek Miller that they had made full payment, inducing him to provide a reception, drinks, food and rooms knowing they had not made full payment.

Colville and Wilkie are alleged to have obtained £4563.60 of goods and services by fraud from the hotel and £250 worth by fraud from the DJ.

Colville, 34, and Wilkie, 35, Eastgait Rise, Tayport, did not enter a plea to two charges of fraud on summary complaint when they appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court on Friday.

Sheriff Elizabeth Munro continued the case without plea until next month.
