CATRIONA Kay from Newport will makes her debut as a TV presenter this weekend.

A former pupil at Madras College in St Andrews, Catriona will present the ‘What’s Up’ youth programme on Pick TV, Channel 11, on Saturday, May 19, and will appear on the show every week until the series ends on June 9.

Catriona, who is now based in London, said: “Ever since debating for my school, I knew that presenting was what I wanted to do.

“After graduating from Edinburgh University I was lucky enough to work on the Homeless World Cup tournament in Brazil and then a year later I moved to London to work for Sky Sports.

“Having an avid passion for sport, especially football – when I lived at home I was a season ticket holder at Tannadice for many years and also a big Benfica fan due to my dual nationality! - I decided that sports presenting would be my ideal.

“Through my production job at Sky, I was fortunate enough to meet the founder of the Mama Youth Project, Bob Clarke, who invited me to audition for a presenting job on this series, and the rest as they say is history!”

Catriona went on: “It has been an awesome beginning to my presenting career working on the youth culture programmes on ‘What’s Up’ because they cover a whole range of fascinating topics.

“You will see me cover up-and-coming acts like Rachel Sermanni and United Vibration, explore the world of girls in urban gangs, chat up singers and comedians and celebrate the skills of Team GB’s men’s wheelchair basketball team!

“It is a really cool programme which I hope will engage viewers from every background and every part of the country with its hot, relevant topics.

“I love presenting, and really hope that my passion for what I’m doing comes across on screen. “

Bob Clarke, executive producer of ‘What’s Up’, said: “Catriona has been a great addition to our team of presenters.

“I had the fortune of directing her on a few shoots and I must say she is like a seasoned professional and I have worked with many established presenters in the past.

“I am sure Catriona has a brilliant future in television and I have already signed her for the next series later this year.”
