Police have stepped up security after a sick internet troll threatened to stab the father of missing Glenrothes man Allan Bryant as well as boasting he had murdered his son.
Allan Bryant Snr informed officers after receiving a series of threatening messages to the family’s Facebook page over the weekend.
Mr Bryant has campaigned tirelessly to keep his son’s disappearance in the public eye since je went missing in November 2013.
Despite a huge police search across Fife, his son, 23 at the time of his disappearance, has not been seen since leaving Styx nightclub in Glenrothes in the early hours of Sunday, November 3.
Among the messages sent to Mr Byant, the troll wrote: “I’ve killed your son, you’ll never find him.
“Ive stabbed him and buried him in water “
And in another there threats to the missing man’s father which read: “You’re next, fat boy - you’re getting stabbed.
“How do you feel knowing we’ve killed your son?”
Mr Byrant Snr told the Gazette, he been forced to take the vile threats seriously in and has now been forced to barricaded his doors at night in order to keep his family safe.
“The messages came completely out of the blue and continued over a period of about eight hours,” he explained.
“We’ve been trolled before but we have to take what they seriously so we copied everything and informed the police.
“They have increased a presence around the family home and have told told me they are investigating the messages to see if they can track down who sent them.”
Police have confirmed they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the latest trolling incident.
In August 2014, Dunfermline man Stewart McInroy was sentenced to 10-months in prison after sending abusive messages to the Bryant family.
Despite the threats, Mr Bryant says he is more determined than ever to find out what happened to his son.
“As shocking and as hurtful as these messages are they won’t stop us, in fact it will make us stronger,” said Mr Bryant Snr.
“If those responsible are tracked down then they are facing a jail sentence, the police have already said to us they will not tolerate any such abuse.
“We just want to know what has happened to our son and we will continue for however long it takes.”
