John Murray pores over the back catalogue of Lisa Stansfield
Twenty five years after her global hit All Around The World Lisa Stansfield returned to the charts this year with her album Seven, her first in ten years.
Since then she undertook a ten date UK tour and with interest growing again it seemed time to revisit and remaster her previous works.
Edsel Records have just released the back catalogue she recorded with Arista with some rare bonus material.
Before all that though The Collection 1989 – 2003 is a massive 13 CD + 5 DVD box set including the People Hold On anthology set with 30 full length club remixes and initial orders had a limited 12” Classic Lisa which was personally signed.
Now available separately, People Hold On features the mixes by Frankie Knuckles, Coldcut, Massive Attack, The Orb and others some of which have been DJ only white labels and never released on CD.
Here we get Change, Never Never Gonna Give You Up, Live Together and three All Around The World mixes along with new sleeve notes, lyrics, memorabilia and a 28 page booklet.
Her debut album in 1989 was Affection and sold five million copies. This edition has the club remixes and a DVD with live concert footage from 1990.
The 1991 Real Love album has the original album plus 13 additional mixes, an extended Set Your Loving Free and a DVD with promo videos, live material and a new 2014 interview with Mark Goodier.
In 1993 came So Natural with the hit In All The Right Places. The bonus disc has the soundtrack and remixes of Someday (I’m Coming Back) from The Bodyguard movie and again a DVD of promo videos.
Lisa’s self titled fourth album had the smash Never Never Gonna Give You Up with all the remixes on the bonus disc heralding the start of four consecutive US No. 1 club hits.
The DVD this time has the full Intimate Evening concert from the Riverside Studios in 1997.
Face Up was her final album for the label in 2001 and has more club mixes and a Ronnie Scott’s concert on DVD.
