I have a hunch ‘The First 15 Lives Of Harry August’ will be one of my books of the year.
Claire North’s book is a fabulous read - a tremendous journey which cuts across centuries and continents without ever leaving you even close to being stranded.
The main character Harry August has 15 lives.
They all start at the same place but in different times - and every time he starts again he does so with the knowledge gained in his previous existences, but without the ability to control his future.
As he nears the end of his 11th life, he is told by a young girl that the world is about to end... and so begins a race to find out who is responsible.
It cuts back and forth with great pace and style - as Harry trails his nemesis while also protecting himself.
It’s hugely inventive, great fun, masterful and superbly written as North shifts inventions and global landmarks into different timezones..
In the right hands, it’d made a quite astonishing film ...
