Thought for the Week: Rev. Ian Elston

There are a few things in life that we can absolutely rely on: that spring will follow winter will follow autumn will follow summer, is one - or at least was because no one has a clue what seasons mean any more.

With a warm winter, a blink and you’ll miss it spring and wet summer the whole of nature is confused: birds are migrating home early - or late, plants do not know whether they are coming or going and we are just fed up.

Even football cannot be relied upon to be the same as ever with all the newco and sevco and voting, nothing will be the same again. The more you look around the less there is to rely on. Thank God for God.

In the whole storms of life and storms of nature God alone can be relied upon to be there for you, comfort you, listen to you, and love you.

God knows us down to the hairs on our head; loves us with a love that has no end and will never change, never leave us, never let us down.

Even death cannot separate us from the love of God.

The weather may drive us crazy, the football bore us, the ‘old’ things we relied on - bankers and the like be damaged beyond repair.

But God who brought the Universe into being, who brought us into being, who loves us still, God can be relied upon to be with us. Always.
