Owner sought for terrified cat found in Glenrothes

The owner of a terrified cat found cowering on the ground in Glenrothes is being sought by the Scottish SPCA.

The animal welfare charity was called to rescue the frightened feline after a dog walker spotted her in distress at the bottom of a tree on North Muir Place on Sunday, January 26 around 11.00 a.m.

The black and white female cat, who has been named Meredith, is now being cared for at the charity’s Angus, Fife and Tayside animal rescue and rehoming centre.

Coreen Hill, assistant centre manager, said: “The lady who found Meredith said she was absolutely terrified but made no attempt to move or run when she approached her.

“It seems very likely that Meredith is a house cat as her behaviour suggests that she has never had to cope with the great outdoors and finds all the noise and distractions completely overwhelming.

“She’s in good condition and, although she wasn’t micro-chipped, she was wearing a collar so we think there’s a good chance her owner is out there somewhere missing her.

“We do also have to consider the possibility that she may have been abandoned and if that is the case then we’ll be seeking to find her a loving new home where she wil be kept as an indoor cat.”

Anyone who recognises Meredith is asked to call the SSPCA on 03000 999 999.
