For sale: One livestock farm of 10,000 acres in New South Wales, Australia – with Kirkcaldy connections!
Wallendibby in the Monaro area, comes complete with acres of pasture, lakes, a shearing station and a five-bedroom homestead, and is the current property of Sir Michael Nairn, of the famous Kirkcaldy floorcovering manufacturers.
After owning the property for 35 years, the former Langtoun businessman, whose father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfathers were all chairmen of Nairn’s linoleum factory where Michael worked in the 1960s, has decided to sell up.
And this week it went up for auction with a pricetag of $6.4m. Sir Michael said he was selling the property because his family, who now live in Scotland and the USA, did not want to take it on. He currently owns an engineering firm in Dundee.
He explained: “I spent seven years in Australia in the 1970s where I met my wife who was Australian. Her father was a farmer and we got quite involved in that aspect of Australian life. It was through her that we bought this as a place of our own.
“We live in Blairgowrie now, but I still have strong connections to Kirkcaldy through the linoleum and I am patron of the Civic Society.
“We spent a lot of time in Australia, and I will be sad to see the farm go.”
