THE death of her father from cancer and her husband suffering an accident shortly afterwards made Glenrothes woman, Pamela Reidie, completely re-assess her life.
She left her full-time job, started up a new business and decided to take control of her health.
And, just seven months after joining Slimming World in her home town Pamela (41), is six stone lighter - and a whole lot happier.
“The death of my Dad, who was also my best friend, really hit me hard, and when my husband Gordon was in a bad accident just a few weeks later I thought it’s time I turned my life around.
“I packed in my full-time job and started up a part-time dog grooming business and started to make time for exercising.
“I joined Slimming World and the class was great - everyone was really supportive and the recipes make you actually cook proper nutritious meals which was good for me.
“I started going to Ave’s Zumba classes which I love and I now go six or seven times a week as well as walking between five and 10 kilometres every day, and the weight soon started to drop off.”
Before going to Florida last month Pamela, who lives in Finglassie, had set herself a five stone target which she reached in time for her holiday, and she says she is determined to shed another four and a half stone to get down to her target weight.
She explained: “I have dropped five dress sizes already and I just went out the other day and bought two new dresses for Christmas.
“One is still a bit tight and the other is about two sizes smaller, but my whole attitude has changed so much now that I know I will get into it by Christmas.
“I feel great and a lot of my health problems have now greatly improved, or even disappeared altogether.
“I have completely changed my life around.”
Pamela’s Slimming World instructor Denise Deacon said: “Pamela has been attending my groups at the Salvation Army Hall, Glenrothes, for only 32 weeks, but she has done an amazing job and is a true inspiration to the group and her fellow slimmers. I’m so proud of her.”
