The Greenside Hotel in Leslie is gearing up for its first music event in eight months this weekend, after being hit by storm damage last year.

And it looks like being a great couple of days, packed with top music as the mini festival, Gig in the Car Park, returns.

The event, which has become a regular feature in the Fife music calendar in recent years, will take place on Saturday and Sunday.

Organiser Raegan Gallagher is looking forward to everything coming together in time for the weekend and is excited for the hotel to be staging live gigs again.

He explained that the venue has been out of action in terms of its live music scene since December, when the hotel was struck by storm damage.

He said: “I’m looking forward to the big re-opening at the weekend.

“We managed to keep the lounge going as usual, but other parts of the hotel haven’t been able to operate since the damage was done.”

It’s been a long process to get things up and running again, but Raegan’s keen to welcome back the music fans who regularly visited the hotel, as well as seeing some new faces.

This weekend’s live music gigs at the hotel will also pave the way, for other events, such as family fun days, that are planned for future dates.

Raegan said: “The Saturday is all about unsigned acts, while the Sunday line-up features tribute bands playing in the marquee in the car park, with a Northern Soul feel in the venue.

“The line-up on the Saturday is pretty decent in comparison to previous years.

“We have a Scottish Album of the Year nominee in Hector Bizerk and most of the main acts have played at T In The Park or Wickerman.

“Probably around 90 per cent of the line-up have played sets on decent platforms.

“We’ve tried to go for a mix of the bigger names as well as continuing to support the local acts.

“So we’ve still got bands on there like the Moon Kids, Root System, Stella Reilly and the Mona Lisas.”

Gig in the Car Park was initially started by Raegan at the hotel around eight years ago to help promote the Fife music scene which was thriving at the time.

However, last summer the ‘car park’ part of its name became ‘the venue’ as no marquee was used.

Now, in 2014 ,it’s a return to the car park for the marquee which, together with the hotel itself, will host live performances.

Since its inception, many bands from the Kingdom have played at the Gig in the Car Park.

Among those who have entertained crowds at the gigs over the years have been Sergeant, Tango in the Attic, Root System, Crayons and Tomas Bird and the Blonde Spirit.

The event has also, in the past, attracted names from across the music scene in Scotland.

Among those who have entertained crowds there have been Davey Horne, former Bluetones frontman Mark Morris and tribute act Them Beatles who brought Beatlemania to Leslie.

With some popular names on the bill for this weekend’s event, it looks set to offer music fans a great time in the Kingdom.

Saturday’s bill will be headlined by Ska/punk party masters Root System along with the aforementioned Hector Bizerk.

Also entertaining the crowds will be T-Breakers, Tijuana Bibles and local lads, The Moon Kids.

Others performing at the event on the Saturday include Stella Reilly, The Rogue Freak Vote, Steph Johnston, The Mona Lisas, The Cavaliers, Forbes, The Blind Lights, Vertical Lips, Snowblind and Fife’s TeenStar finalist Toni Boyle.

Return to the Sun, John Mackie and John Freddy Caldicott are also on Saturday’s bill.

Then on the following day, the festival turns to ‘Tribute in the Car Park’ and a soul Sunday.

Some of Scotland’s finest tribute bands will be playing in the marquee, including Them Beatles, who make their return to Leslie.

Oasis tribute Stop the Clocks, The Sensational David Bowie Tribute Band, Whatever Nevermind (Nirvana tribute), Foo Fifers and the Johnny Cash and June Carter tribute Big River will all be on hand too, to ensure there’s a party atmosphere and that everyone has a great time listening to the sounds of their favourite acts performed live in tribute.

Inside the venue on Sunday there will be seven DJs playing Northern Soul, Tamela Motown, Mod, Funk, Disco and House music.

Among them will be JMD, Nathan Moore, Sean Pearson, Jason Doig, John Ross, Signal Jam and Mark Linton.

Raegan added: “Musically it’s probably one of the best line-ups I’ve had on. There’s a lot of talent involved on all stages over both days.

“Hopefully people will come along over the weekend and enjoy themselves while listening to some fantastic music.”
