The fire led to significant disruption to other trains, with several ScotRail services cancelled.

The train was terminated at Leuchars after smoke was seen coming from the engine.

Some passengers were moved to another carriage as fire crews attended – three appliances were mobilised and ensured the train and the area were made safe before leaving the scene around 1.00p.m.

The train was later towed by another locomotive back to the Craigentinny depot in Edinburgh.
