People prefer their pets to their partner

This is according to the results of a survey by Vets Now which found that 80 per cent of the 1000 people surveyed think their pet is way cuter than their other half, with three-quarters saying that their pet gives better cuddles.

Half admit that they would rather spend a free afternoon with their pet, whilst three-quarters prefer a selfie with their beloved animal.

So it is not surprising that 72 per cent of those surveyed celebrate their pet’s birthday, and three-fifths confess to lavishing more cash on their pet.

The poll by Vets Now – the leading provider of emergency veterinary care for small animals in the UK – also found that pets are ruling the bedroom too.

Sixty-five per cent of Brits said they let their pet sleep in their bed, despite two thirds revealing that they snore badly.

Only 25 per cent of pet owners who admitted to letting their pet share a bed, said that it annoyed their other half, however.

Two-fifths also turn to their pet when they have a fall-out, throwing their partner on the sofa for a comforting cuddle with their pet.

The survey has been revealed during National Pet Month.

Richard Dixon, chairman of Vets Now, said: “The results of the survey show how a pet can capture a very special place in your heart. If you treat a pet well they will reward you with so much love, warmth and companionship.

“Even the most blissful of relationships can have an off-day, so you can appreciate why people would turn to their pet for some comfort.”
