193 new homes planned for Halbeath Interchange

Housebuilding firms Persimmon and Bellway have submitted the plans for phase two of construction on the former Freescale/Hyundai site north of Dunfermline’s Amazon warehouse.

Phase two of the project, to the west of the proposed super-school site, details an 193 additional homes to the south of the first lot of 225 houses.

The masterplan for both phases was approved in 2014, for up to 450 homes. The final count will be 418 homes – 32 short of the original plan.

Working together on the plans, Persimmon and Bellway say a proportion of the homes will be for affordable social let. Both firms have promised to create greenspace for children to play in, running through the centre of the development, as well as cycle-friendly paths.

“The vision is for a new neighbourhood which has a sense of identity, is safe and pleasant in terms of the location and nature of open space, is easy to move through and reflects the priorities of both local and national design guidance,” the firms say in a joint statement submitted to Fife Council.

Planners are now assessing the application with a decision expected sometime during the summer.

Other applications for the wider Halbeath project remain under consideration, including a proposed southern access road into the site from Sandpiper Drive.

That application will be considered by a local planning committee after receiving 270 objections from locals who believe prepatory works are already disrupting local wildlife living in nearby Calaismuir Woods.

Fife Council planners are also continuing to assess the jewel in the Halbeath Project’s crown: two new high schools, a new Fife College campus, housing, a 16-pump petrol station, a pub/restaurant and drive-through coffee shop.
