The call comes as the branch marks its 50th anniversary this year.

Its volunteers are key to providing support during the lockdown, and with the cancellation of many fundraising events, it is asking the town to show its support.

Volunteers who are able to carry out shifts at Kirkcaldy branch are following strict guidelines on hygiene standards and social distancing.

The situation is being continually monitored to ensure that their safety is prioritised.

A spokeswoman for the Kirkcaldy branch highlighted the challenges the service faces in a landmark year.

She said: “2020 is an important anniversary for us.

“For 50 years our branch has provided a listening ear to anyone who needs support. Something that has been made possible through kind and generous donations.

“Now, more than ever, we need the public’s continued support.

“Due to the cancellation of fundraising events we are facing loss of funding, so we are calling on residents to help us ensure we continue to be here for anyone who needs support.”

A donation as little as £5 will help volunteers to answer a call for help from someone struggling to cope and be there when people need support the most.To make a donation and find out other ways you can show your support, please visit the Kirkcaldy Samaritans fundraising page onvirginmoneygiving.com.
